In most households, incomes have risen significantly over the last five years and Singapore has done better than most countries, he said.
The prime minister said Singapore must keep looking forward and adapting to new developments in the world, and that the government will manage the pace of change to help Singaporeans retain their sense of belonging and values.
The country is managing the flow of new immigrants and helping them integrate into society, he said.
The ruling party has an experienced and proven team and the line-up of the party for the coming general election also contains the core of a new team that will be able succeed him and his present colleagues in time.
Lee said the best years are ahead, calling on the voters to support the team that they can trust and for the party that will secure a better future for them and their children.
"We have to be watchful of the dangers, so let us secure the future first. But be confident and determined; the prospects are bright, the opportunities are there, work hard together, set the direction, aim for it, get there," he said.
Singapore is due to hold the next general election by February next year, but observers had widely speculated that it would be held this year.
The ruling party has unveiled all its 24 new candidates for the general election Tiffany Bracelets, including some heavyweight candidates that are expected to be office holders. Several of the opposition parties have also unveiled their candidates and manifestos recently. For the next general election to be held, the current parliament would have to be dissolved first.
